Project Summary
Parkinson's disease is well known for its motor triad of akinesia, resting tremor and postural rigidity, but it is also accompanied by non-motor symptoms that increase the disability of sufferers. Our research team is particularly interested in the role of monoaminergic systems in the pathophysiology of the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease. We are focusing in particular on the pain associated with Parkinson's disease, which is a major problem and for which there is no satisfactory treatment to relieve patients. Our aim is to gain a better understanding of the plasticity that takes place in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, but also in the basal ganglia, so as to enable the emergence of new, effective therapeutic approaches.
